Unlocking the Compounds Within

Mushrooms contain a variety of naturally occurring compounds held within tough cellular structures made primarily of chitin, the same structural material found in the shells of insects and crustaceans. To access these compounds effectively, the mushroom material must be processed in a way that breaks down those cellular walls and allows what’s held within to be released.

That process is extraction.

By carefully applying heat, water, and other solvents, we can separate and concentrate the naturally occurring compounds found within mushrooms while preserving their integrity.

Why Extraction Matters

Simply consuming raw mushroom material does not always make the full range of compounds easily available. Extraction helps:

• break down the chitin cell walls
• release water-soluble compounds
• capture alcohol-soluble compounds
• create consistent and measurable products

This process allows mushrooms to be incorporated into capsules, gummies, powders, teas, and other preparations with greater consistency.

Our Dual Extraction Method

Different compounds respond to different methods, which is why our process uses a dual extraction technique combining both hot water and alcohol extraction.

Each method targets different classes of compounds found within the mushroom, allowing us to capture a broader range of its natural chemistry.

Hot Water Extraction

Some compounds dissolve readily in water. During hot water extraction, mushroom material is gently heated in purified water over time, allowing these water-soluble molecules to be released.

This method has deep roots in traditional mushroom preparations and remains widely used in mushroom teas and decoctions today.

Alcohol Extraction

Other mushroom compounds dissolve more effectively in alcohol than in water. During this phase, the mushroom material is processed with alcohol to capture these alcohol-soluble compounds.

By bringing the two methods together, we are able to collect a broader range of the mushroom’s naturally occurring chemistry.

From Mushroom to Extract

The journey from fruiting body to finished extract happens with intention at every stage. Our process follows several steps designed to preserve quality and consistency:

  1. Careful drying of mushroom fruiting bodies

  2. Milling to increase surface area

  3. Hot water extraction to release water-soluble compounds

  4. Alcohol extraction to capture additional compounds

  5. Filtration and concentration

  6. Quality control testing

Each step has a purpose. Together, they help maintain the character of the original mushroom while creating a consistent finished product.

Quality & Testing

Nature creates the mushroom. Careful process helps us create consistency.

Quality and consistency are central to our extraction process. Each batch undergoes quality control procedures and potency testing to help verify consistency from batch to batch.

This testing helps confirm that the final product reflects the intended formulation, bringing greater precision to something that begins in nature.

The Science Behind Mushroom Extraction

Humans have been working with mushrooms through traditional preparations for centuries. Today, extraction is also widely used in modern nutraceutical and research contexts.

By bringing traditional methods together with modern analytical testing, extraction creates a bridge between natural cultivation and consistent product formulation.

It is part tradition, part science, and part curiosity about everything the mushroom has yet to reveal.
